Katoto
Victor Emmanuel Carmelo “Vim” Nadera, Jr., a native of Tayabas City, Quezon, started collaborating with Paul Val Peña more than 20 years ago when they were both student staffers at the Varsitarian, University of Santo Tomas's official student newspaper based in Manila, Philippines. Vim, who served as the paper’s editor-in-chief and later as the assistant publications adviser, shared his insightful and hard hitting lyrics to Paul in between classes at the Varsitarian office. Paul, a staff photographer and a native of Olongapo City, created wide-ranging melodies to flow with Vim’s exceptional poetic expressions that eventually led to their first album, Katoto.
Vim is an award winning poet and writer (National Artist, Palanca Awards, Poet of the Year, National Book Awards, and TOYM to name a few). He held the position of Director, Institute of Creative Writing at the University of the Philippines, where he is currently a professor.
Paul is currently based in San Diego, California.
